Growing Interest in the Signs of Safety in The Netherlands

There is considerable interest in the Signs of Safety in the Netherlands. To help grow practitioners and agencies interested in building their use of the approach Andrew Turnell and his business Resolutions Consultancy is working in partnership with Bureau Van Montfoort (BVM) to offer training and a structured process to assist agencies to implement the approach. For more information contact Adri Van Montfoort through www.vanmontfoort.nl

BVM and Resolutions Consultancy in conjunction with Bureau Jeugdzorg Drenthe and Zeeland will also organise the Fourth International Signs of Safety Gathering in Zeeland in September 5 to 7, 2011

Provinces Implementing Signs of Safety in the Netherlands

Two Dutch provinces, Drenthe in the north and Zeeland in the south are implementing the Signs of Safety and there is considerable interest and momentum to spread the approach more broadly in the Netherlands. For more information about the work in Drenthe contact Roelof Martens, roelof.martens@bjzdrenthe.nl for Zeeland contact Eric Sulkers, e.sulkers@bjz-zeeland.nl

Magazine

Recently Bureau Jeugdzorg Drenthe published a volume of their magazine ‘Breedbeeld’ focused on the Signs of Safety work. The text and concept is the work of Titia Struiving. Even if you can’t read Dutch its fantastic quality and worth a look, the children’s Three Houses drawings are inspiring. PDF here.

Practitioners from both Zeeland and Drenthe presented their work at the Gateshead Gathering in 2008 – you can view video’s of their presentations here:

Signs of Safety Trainers in The Netherlands

Two pairs of practitioners from Drenthe have established training partnerships focused on the Signs of Safety work. They are Margreet Timmer and Petra Rozeboom - Signs of Safety NL and Marieke Vogel and Theo Klooster through their business TheMa Veiligheid. Margreet and Petra, Theo and Marieke work within Bureau Jeugdzorg Drenthe and have been in the middle of the 5 year Drenthe Signs of Safety implementation. They use the approach in their everyday child protection practice and so have direct working experience to assist other practitioners and also have a direct understanding of the hard work it takes for an agency to truly implement this approach.
