In this studio-filmed, new and revised 65 minute Signs of Safety DVD, Andrew Turnell:

  • Provides a short history describing the development of the Signs of Safety approach
  • Presents and explains the two versions of the Signs of Safety assessment and planning framework and the analysis process for using the protocol as a comprehensive child protection risk assessment tool
  • Uses a case example of a suicidal mother and four year-old son to demonstrate the Signs of Safety assessment process as a map that enables both professionals and family members to think themselves into and through the situations of child abuse and neglect
  • Details the questioning skills that bring the Signs of Safety approach to life for professionals and family

The DVD includes electronic copies of the Signs of Safety assessment forms and the completed assessment example from the DVD case study.

DVD Workbook

The Signs of Safety DVD is sold together with a 32-page colour workbook, designed to compliment and support the video presentation.

The workbook focuses on assisting professionals to build their understanding and questioning skills in using the Signs of Safety approach so they can create rigorous, meaningful assessments together with parents, young people and children.

The workbook draws upon two additional case examples; one involving a father struggling with issues of addiction and mental illness who is seeking to reunite with his two young children, the second involves a homeless teenager who has been raped. The Signs of Safety assessments created in each case are presented and explored in detail.

The workbook also includes suggested learning exercises (in shaded type) to assist practitioners in learning the approach.

Purchasing the DVD

The DVD can be purchased in four ways: Single User, Training Use, Multi-user Organisational or University/College Multi-user as below. Purchases can be made using the form at the top of this page. Payment can be processed either using PayPal (wich includes the ability to pay by Credit Card) or you can be sent an invoice and pay either by Bank Transfer or Cheque. Please note if using the second option your order won't ship until the payment is received or your Cheque clears.

Single User Copy:
$75 (Australian including postage and handling)

$150 (Aus) for individual trainers using the DVD in public training
Includes a Trainer’s License providing permission to use the DVD in public training.
If you want to use the DVD to provide training within your organisation, please purchase the organisational license.

    This package includes 4 DVDs, an Organisational Multi-use License, and a digital PDF copy of workbook for reproduction for staff
  • $1000 (Aus) For large organisations with over 250 staff
    This package includes 10 DVDs, an Organisational Multi-use License, and a digital PDF copy of the workbook for reproduction for staff. (Additional Copies of the DVD are available at $35 per DVD. Extra DVD’s at this discounted rate are only available as part of the large organisation package).
