Three Houses Booklet & DVD

Developed in New Zealand by Nicki Weld and Maggie Greening, The ‘Three Houses’ is a practical tool for involving children and young people in child protection assessment and planning. The Three Houses provide a visual structure to talk with with children and young people about what they think is happening in their lives and what they want to have happen in the future. Produced by Andrew Turnell and Sonja Parker, the booklet includes an outline of the suggested process in using the Three Houses, as well as two detailed case examples. The booklet also includes an introduction to the Fairy and Wizard tool, developed by Vania Da Paz in Western Australia.

The 20 min DVD contains a demonstration by Sonja of using the Three Houses tool with a young person. Working with a child actor, Sonja roleplays using the Three Houses with a 12 year old girl, called Jo, following allegations by Jo that her uncle had been doing "yucky things" to her in the bath. The interview involves Sonja:
- introducing her role to Jo.
- introducing the Three Houses tool to Jo.
- working through each of the 'houses' with Jo.
- talking with Jo about who needs to see her 'Three Houses'.
- talking with Jo about a further forensic interview based on the information provided by Jo in her 'Three Houses'.

Purchasing the Booklet and DVD

The Three Houses booklet and DVD can be purchased in three ways: Single User, Training Use or Multi-user Organisational as below. Single User Copy:
$40 (Australian including postage and handling)

Training Use Copy and License*:
$80 (Aus) for individual trainers purchasing the Booklet for training purposes
Includes a Trainer’s License providing permission to use information from the booklet in public training.

Organisational/Multi-user*:

• $130 (Aus) for small organisations of up 50 staff.
  This package includes 2 booklets and DVDs, an Organisational Multi-use License, and a digital PDF copy of the booklet for reproduction for agency staff .
• $250 (Aus) For medium organisations with between 50 to 250 staff
  This package includes 4 booklets and DVDs, an Organisational Multi-use License, and a digital PDF copy of the booklet for reproduction for agency staff.
• $500 (Aus) For large organisations with over 250 staff
  This package includes 10 booklets and DVDs, an Organisational Multi-use License, and a digital PDF copy of the booklet for reproduction for agency staff . (Additional Copies of the DVD are available at $15 per DVD. Extra DVDs at this discounted rate are only available as part of the large organisation package).
