Child protection practitioners are skilled at assessing risk and collaborating with families and networks when designing fit-for-purpose safety plans. With the introduction of Signs of Safety, a few common questions have been asked by practitioners worldwide, such as:

  • The different types of safety?
  • How do I apply safety planning to high-risk youth in foster care?
  • What do I do during safety planning meetings? How to best facilitate these sessions? How many meetings will this process require?
  • What needs to be addressed, managed, and discussed during these sessions?
  • How do I know I’m done? How do I know the plan is good enough?
  • What does a safety plan look like?

Workers report that with the onset of Signs of Safety, they feel caught between two systems (Ministry standards/requirements and the Signs of Safety tools and processes). This workshop will equip, enhance and skill up participants with the knowledge of rigorously and effectively collaborating to facilitate the development, monitoring, testing, and refining of safety plans with youth and families.

Utilizing a bit of teaching, case examples and mostly group work, participants will be challenged, learn from each other, and strengthen their abilities to facilitate balanced, rigorous, and sophisticated safety plans utilizing the Signs of Safety tools. This 3-part workshop is facilitated by Avi Versanov and Cynthia McLeod, licensed Signs of Safety Trainers and Consultants.
