Mark Stonell has been a qualified social worker for over 14 years. He trained with UNICEF, a multi-agency mental health team and at a domestic violence refuge.

Mark initially worked as a child protection social worker in inner city Leeds, progressing to be a team manager and eventually Service Manager, leading the child protection service for Wakefield Council.

As Principal Social Worker for Wakefield Council, Mark led on their implementation of the Signs of Safety approach from Early Help through to Looked After Children.

Mark is particularly interested in how feedback from practitioners and families can help us to lead implementations, and helped Kings College to facilitate this learning for Wakefield.

Mark also chaired the regional development group for Signs of Safety, established in the north of England, as part of the government-funded Innovation Programme.

Mark has a proven track record of success, managing Wakefield and District Safeguarding Children’s Board to a Good inspection rating by Ofsted before joining the Signs of Safety community as a trainer.

Previously he volunteered to take vulnerable children on outdoor pursuit weekends and continues to coach junior football.

Mark brings with him great enthusiasm and experience to training in the Signs of Safety practice model.

Mark is particularly interested in group supervision and developing Words and Pictures explanations with parents.

Mark has helped to lead on developing Meaningful Measures and aligning IT to practice in the UK, he can bring this knowledge and experience to help you in leading your implementation.
