Child and Youth Safety Assessment and Safety Planning

Child and Youth Safety Assessment and Safety Planning

17–18 October 2023

1.00 pm – 4.00 pm EST

This workshop will be held on Zoom

Country: Canada

We are excited to offer two workshops (2 days each) for practitioners and leaders working with children in care and licensed resource homes. As Ontario embarks on regulation and policy directives involving youth transitioning out of care with a new READY, SET, GO program (April 2023), and new requirements for SAFETY ASSESSMENT AND SAFETY PLANNING for children in care (July 1 2023), we developed a rigorous and sophisticated approach to utilising the Signs of Safety methods and processes alongside these new regulations.

The workshop on offer here is the Child and Youth Safety Assessment and Safety Planning workshop. It will focus on the how-to methods and processes to assess children and youth’s needs, behaviours and risk and develop safety plans for children in care. The workshop will be facilitated by Avi Versanov, Cynthia McLeod and Theresa Vinokuroff, licensed Signs of Safety Trainers and Consultants.

Although these workshops will primarily focus on Ontario’s new regulatory requirements, they are open to all practitioners (outside of Ontario) interested in deepening their risk assessment, safety planning and wellbeing assessment, and planning skills with youth and children.

Join us as we step into participatory learning and development, focusing on sophisticated risk assessment and safety planning for and with children and youth in foster care. We will teach participants to use Signs of Success® and Signs of Belonging® to assess readiness, wellbeing and independence skills for youth from age 13 up to the age of 23 in the development of the plan of care and youth plans.

Although participants can enrol in just one workshop, we encourage organisations and individuals to consider enlisting in both workshops to maximise their experiential learning opportunities.
