Using Signs of Safety in Preliminary Assessments

13 February 2024

9.00 am – 4.00 pm CET

Country: Sweden

This one-day training workshop is facilitated by Diana Nikosjkova, licensed Signs of Safety trainer. Diana worked for many years as a social worker at Intake level making preliminary assessments, supported by the Signs of Safety approach and methods.

The training is aimed at social workers and supervisors who receive reports of concern for children and young people and who have to make preliminary assessments on these reports. During the training, participants will learn how to use Signs of Safety’s working method and approach in their conversations with informants, parents, children and young people, and to create a good relationship with the families which allows difficult conversations to happen more easily.

This training will give you the opportunity to get better at asking specific and detailed questions about the concerns received, how parents and their family network ensure that the child or young person is protected from the worries, and about the family’s own ideas on how to solve the problem.

The content of the training covers:

  • The Signs of Safety approach
  • Receiving a report of concern
  • Collecting information from children and young people
  • Five method elements to use in conversations with parents
  • Analysis and assessment in more advanced assessments
