Agi has been a front line social worker in child protection since 1998, both as practitioner and manager. She has been involved in policy development for and direct work with children and young people affected by forced marriage and substance misuse. Agi has worked with children at risk of sexual exploitation and as a practitioner in the assessment of young abusers. She has undertaken extensive work with children looked after, building on inclusion of their voice in the decisions that are made about their lives.

Agi has been instrumental in developing the use of Signs of Safety in Swindon, with a major emphasis on developing a structure for Child Protection Conferences as well as supporting the wider work force and partner agencies learn and develop Signs of Safety in their work place.

Signs of Safety is an opportunity for the voice of children to be heard and with the successful development of the model it is an opportunity for practitioners, from all disciplines and roles, to work with families and reach the safest and right outcomes for the children. This is achieved through developing a thorough understanding of the impact on and view of the child alongside the family’s capacity to identify and affect the changes needed to keep their child safer.

Agi’s post graduate studies are in supervision and mentorship in child protection and she sees that Signs of Safety has a powerful and robust place in both individual and group supervision, where decision making can be resilient and uniquely informed in order to achieve best outcomes for children, as well as strengthening the voice of the practitioner.
