Courtney Smith, M.Ed, has over 28 years’ experience in human services. She started her clinical background as a music therapist in hospitals and has worked in mental health, substance abuse, juvenile court and intensive family preservation before finding her way into social services. For the last 18 years, she has specialized in leadership development and training, organizational culture and climate, model implementation, strategic planning, and instructional design. Courtney was first introduced to Solution-Focused child welfare work by Insoo Kim Berg in 2002 and began studying Signs of Safety with Andrew Turnell and working collaboratively with Safe Generations in in 2014. She has facilitated implementation of Differential Response and/or Signs of Safety in twelve states and Canada and regularly trains child welfare trainers in schools of social work or state training partnerships. In 2015, Courtney opened her own training and consulting business, Blue Spiral Consulting. She is known for engaging learners by brining case practice to life, using storytelling, Appreciative Inquiry and inside-out learning. Courtney gets really excited about creating words and pictures and building facilitation skills for Signs of Safety county trainers.
